WAHOO WEDNESDAY

It's all about appreciation

Just who have you appreciated today? I mean authentic appreciation, where you look someone in the eye and tell them specifically the good deeds they have done for you.

Why would I mention this in a Wahoo Cookie Blog?  Remember, we are all about “Fun & Love.” Over the past few weeks, I have had encounters with more than one of my friends who have expressed frustration with their work environments and being under appreciated.  They work hard to bring new ideas and more efficient ways to their jobs, but without appreciation. I don’t just mean a quick “thank you” either.  That is what you give folks who hold the door open for you.

Authentic appreciation goes to the root of a culture where people know they have value in whatever setting it is. This could take less than 60 seconds but make a day or the week for someone else.

Speaking of appreciation, Mother’s Day is right around the corner and what I wouldn’t be give to be able to tell my mother, Mary Lewis, thank you for helping me to become the independent, strong-willed woman I am today. (Mind you there were many others along the way, but the older I get the more I marvel at how she met the challenges life threw her.)

At Wahoo Cookies, we want you to relax, enjoy and appreciate time with your mom and family, so we are offering a special on Mother’s Day orders.  To accommodate all of the orders and for us to enjoy our family, we have set a noon May 10 order deadline to receive cookies by Mother’s Day.

Take care of yourself in the week to come, and hopefully make time to show authentic appreciation to your family and friends.

Cookie break

WAHOO! It’s cookie time-and you deserve a “Cookie Break” Thanks for returning, and that could mean many things: returning to read my blog, returning to order more cookies, or just returning as an excuse to have a cookie break and reflect on how the day is going.
What fun it has been this last week filling orders and sending them just about everywhere. It has broadened my horizons -- literally learning new zip codes and making friends with post office employees, who are most helpful. Thanks for your support.
But more importantly this endeavor has allowed me the flexibility to devote time with some of my favorite non-profits, rekindle relationships with friends and relatives I haven’t seen for quite awhile, and reflect on what I want to do with this next phase of my life. You might want to think about doing some of these fun things for you; we’re never guaranteed a tomorrow. I'm a firm believer in taking care of yourself so you can be a better caregiver for those you cherish.
I recently was explaining to a new colleague about the Wahoo Cookies adventure and he described me as a “Renaissance woman.” That really surprised me, as I never thought of it that way and don’t for a minute believe I am on that trajectory. I'm just doing something I always wanted to do: start my own company (and why not) and watch it grow. And thanks to you it is growing. But it is fun to think no matter what phase of life you are in, you can choose to reinvent, recreate and rebuild your life on any path that fits you right then. Hence it’s cookies for me for now!
So as you take this “cookie break” and peer out the window, hopefully you see signs of spring. With flowering trees and gardens, spring for many means new beginnings, new lives and vacation plans. As an educator, I see spring as one of the most stressful times of the year for both my colleagues and students. Not only are the days warmer and longer, but in an academic world these spring days are full of either test prepping or the actual test. Between state-mandated tests, college entrance tests and college semester finals, there might be some pretty frantic folks in your world who could use a gesture of support! This support can be in the form of a texted emoji, a greeting card or some home-baked cookies. Let's face it: An all-nighter always goes better with a freshly baked cookie, or as I like to think of it a cookie break. Order today with a note of encouragement and we'll take care of the rest. USE COUPON CODE COOKIEBREAK TODAY ONLY FOR 30% OFF.
Take care of yourself in the week to come, embrace your family and friends and support those who might be stressed.

WAHOO! AND WELCOME!
To all you who have had to reflect, rethink and remember where your core will always lie -- at their grandma’s kitchen table with milk and cookies -- welcome to the first of many cookie musings. And yes, that’s is where my life’s path has brought me back to the calm and comfort reflections of my grandma’s kitchen table.
And yes, I am eating a cookie as I type. Why NOT! It’s Wahoo Wednesday!

I hope all of you who have either had a Wahoo cookie at my house or some cookies at my fun parties or ordered from the website understand that this is more than just a fun business endeavor for my daughter and me. This is my way of using a talent -- cookie baking -- and giving it to you. Also, and equally important,  this Wahoo Cookie venture has become the vehicle to help me reinvent the character -- ME!

Started as a lark, the company grew out of a family gathering where I had baked and iced pumpkin cookies for my family, especially the grandkids. Grandkids are life-changers, in and of themselves. On that day, it became hard for me to convince my own family that I had made these cookies and not bought them. At that point, the girls in my life (daughter & daughter-in-law) started to research possible cookie company names and websites. Why NOT!

Finding a company name was easy: WAHOO! The word has always been a part of my vocabulary stretching back to my days as a high school principal. I used “Wahoo!” to celebrate the “small” student wins because most of my students never heard an encouraging word and to me it conjured “love & fun.”

My daughter agreed to be the Social Media Director, a loose title, which encompasses anything on the internet -- website, emails, tWITTER,, Facebook posts, and the list goes on.  This is a good exercise for her as well, since having our first grandbaby. Much haS changed for her including Google Suites. But nap times are her working hours.

Now you know the why and how we got to this point. But this is just the beginning for more fun and love to come every week as you, the cookie consumer, and I journey down a path. Where it heads I’m not sure, but I pray my heart will always be open to new opportunities and of course Love & Fun. Why NOT!
Embrace the moment and enjoy life as if today was your last!
